Fall Term 2025: Week 3
Last week, NASA selected its 2025 All-American astronaut candidates, and among them is Lauren Edgar `07. Dr. Edgar majored in earth sciences at Dartmouth before earning her master’s and doctorate in geology at the California Institute of Technology. She now serves as the deputy principal investigator for the geology team attached to the Artemis III mission, scheduled to explore the lunar south pole in 2027.
This month, Dr. Edgar and her fellow astronauts-in-training arrived at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Texas, where they will prepare for complex operations on the International Space Station, Artemis lunar missions, and other possible launches.
Dr. Edgar is an inspiring representation of what women in STEM can achieve. We’re looking forward to learning more about her exploits with the Space Program and beyond!

STEM Boldly: Building Voice & Presence at Dartmouth
Monday, September 29 (10:15AM, 12PM, and 3:45PM)
DOC House
If you have registered to participate in one of the three STEM Boldly workshops taking place today, please budget 10-15 minutes to walk from main campus to the Dartmouth Outing Club House at the north end of Occom Pond.
Each workshop will be led by Dr. Carla Brodley, computer scientist and Director of the Center for Inclusive Computing at Northeastern University, as our visiting expert and workshop leader. Sessions are one hour long and, at the end, students will hopefully feel better equipped to talk about and address exclusion and bias in STEM spaces.
We hope to see you there!
