Winter Term - Week 8

As we close in on the end of winter term, please make sure that you’ve submitted your timesheets, checked in with your peer mentor/mentees, and take some time to enjoy campus before finals start.

Do you have a suggestion for programming that you would like to see WISP implement? Please visit our Suggestion Box! You can leave your comment anonymously or let us know if you want us to follow up with you.

GWISE x WISP Journal Club

Second session TOMORROW NIGHT!

The first journal club session was a hit and we’re looking forward to the second, which will be held TOMORROW (2/25) at 5:30-7PM in LSC205. You can still register to jump in. Registrants, please let us know if you will not attend, as it will help us order the correct amount of food.

The next two sessions will pick up after spring break: April 8 and April 22. We hope to see you there!

Astronomy Night!

Friday, February 28, 8:00-10:00PM

Fairchild Tower, First Floor (to start) session

Our friends in Physics & Astronomy have graciously offered to host a party for the stars! Well, for seeing the stars, anyway. February has some extraordinary astronomical events, culminating in a planetary alignment on Feb 28. Join us for food and drinks on the first floor of Fairchild before moving to the observing shed to take a guided peep at the night sky. If the weather is too cloudy to permit good viewing, we will reach out to let you know about a raincheck.

Please register here if you plan to attend! Mentors, this would be a great way to catch up with your mentees before the end of winter term!

Eichler Seminar: Debunking Med School Mythology: What Doctors Wish Pre-Health Students Knew

Tuesday, February 25, 6:00-7:30PM

Silsby 126 with Zoom option for remote attendees

Pre-health students are subjected to many conflicting messages regarding their candidacy for medical school. Given the advances in social media and websites devoted to pooling information, it has become increasingly difficult to discern what are the desirable traits of a modern physician. To bring some insight to the trajectory of medical training, leaders from medical school admissions and surgical training and a current 4th-year medical student will discuss what they value in this evolving landscape.
